Product Development Cases

Original design × "Shirushizome"

SUGISHITA is also developing products such as daily necessities and goods using
the traditional “Shirushizome” technique. The following are some examples of
our product development, including collaborations with creators and designers,
companies’ commemorative items and promotional giveaways, and store-exclusive goods.

Togo-Kinenkan
Wedding tablecloths
This memorial hall has a shrine and a wedding banquet room. We designed, dyed, and made tablecloths according to the architectural design of the banquet room.
“Shirushizome SUGISHITA”
“Shirushizome” new-brand furoshiki
This line of products was art-directed by Akiko Sekimoto. With the aim of introducing a traditional technique to our daily lives, this brand offers items such as furoshiki wrapping cloths and handkerchiefs.
“Shirushizome SUGISHITA”
Hokkyoku Shirokumado
Baby slings
We made exclusive items for an online shop that sells baby slings and baby carriers. The products are very popular with customers, with comments such as “This baby sling makes everyday clothing fashionable.”
Togo-Kinenkan
Leaflet-style furoshiki
For this ceremony hall with a shrine and a wedding banquet room, we produced a “Shirushizome” furoshiki wrapping cloth as part of the revamped leaflet.
Yoga studio in Kyoto
Original furoshiki
We made furoshiki wrapping cloths as exclusive items for members of a yoga studio, who found it useful for carrying their yoga mat.
Gion Festival
Commemorative hand towels
We have produced hand towels used by townspeople in Kyoto’s Gion Festival, one of the three major festivals in Japan. The design changes every year.
Lawson MACHI café
Promotional campaign
We produced original “Shirushizome” tote bags as promotional giveaways for the takeout cafe of a convenience store chain in Japan.
Koudansya
Popular comic and anime original goods
We produced hand towels as goods featuring an anime character from Kodansha’s popular comic “xxxHOLiC.” In recent years, some people have enjoyed their hand towels by framing them or hanging them like scroll paintings.
Recruit Co.
Charity event
SUGISHITA was invited to join the “Shirushizome Tote Bag Exhibition,” a reconstruction project by Recruit Co. to support recovery after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
