Collaboration with
JIL SANDER Kyoto
At the request of the high-end brand JIL SANDER, we produced furoshiki wrapping cloths for products purchased at the Kyoto shop. This collaboration was published in the fashion magazine WWD.
Repair of a dress worn
by the Meiji Empress
We were requested to replicate embroidery expressions using dyeing, which was quite a challenge, but the client was satisfied with our data production and pure silk inkjet technology. We are pleased to pass on this old but precious item to future generations
Charity event
SUGISHITA was invited to join the “Shirushizome Tote Bag Exhibition,” a reconstruction project by Recruit Co. to support recovery after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
“ShirushizomeSUGISHITA”
new-brand furoshiki
This line of products was art-directed by Akiko Sekimoto. With the aim of introducing a traditional technique to our daily lives, this brand offers items such as furoshiki wrapping cloths and handkerchiefs.
Popular comic and anime original goods
We produced hand towels as goods featuring an anime character from Kodansha’s popular comic “xxxHOLiC.” In recent years, some people have enjoyed their hand towels by framing them or hanging them like scroll paintings.
Gion Festival
Commemorative hand towels
We have produced hand towels used by townspeople in Kyoto’s Gion Festival, one of the three major festivals in Japan. The design changes every year.
Handkerchiefs of
a Japanese-style painter’s work
We dyed handkerchiefs with the design of a work drawn by the master Japanese-style painter Takato Yamamoto. They were sold in frames, which was a new way of using handkerchiefs. Made of a soft fabric, these handkerchiefs are, of course, also used as handkerchiefs
Togo-Kinenkan
Leaflet-style furoshiki
For this ceremony hall with a shrine and a wedding banquet room, we produced a “Shirushizome” furoshiki wrapping cloth as part of the revamped leaflet.
Hokkyoku Shirokumado
Baby slings
We made exclusive items for an online shop that sells baby slings and baby carriers. The products are very popular with customers, with comments such as “This baby sling makes everyday clothing fashionable.”
Noren curtain for
a Japanese tea shop
A new shop was launched in Kyoto by KOTOSHINA, which offers not only drinks but also skincare products by utilizing the ingredients contained in Japanese tea. SUGISHITA made a noren curtain bearing the family crest which is hung at the shop entrance.
Togo-Kinenkan
Wedding tablecloths
This memorial hall has a shrine and a wedding banquet room. We designed, dyed, and made tablecloths according to the architectural design of the banquet room.
Lawson MACHI café
Promotional campaign
We produced original “Shirushizome” tote bags as promotional giveaways for the takeout cafe of a convenience store chain in Japan.
Yoga studio in Kyoto
Original furoshiki
We made furoshiki wrapping cloths as exclusive items for members of a yoga studio, who found it useful for carrying their yoga mat.
