Bringing out the colors inside the client’s mind

My role, with much experience of dyeing, is art direction. If a client or designer discusses colors directly with a factory, the conversation often does not go well. This is because the sample colors and the colors imagined by the client are different. If a sample color shown on a printed material or computer monitor is painted on a fabric, a different color appears. Based on the color samples and conversations with clients, I bring out the desired colors inside the client’s mind. Then, I apply these colors to the process and let the artisans know about them. I place utmost importance on the conversation with the client for accurate direction.

Assisting your special occasion

You may have never heard of the word “Shirushizome,” but it is the process of dyeing noren shop curtains, flags, and hanten jackets, all of which are seen in towns. Most of our products are used on special occasions. I am committed to meticulous dyeing on our products, imagining the happy face of the end user on such occasions.

“Shirushizome” is fun

My family was in the yuzen dyeing business, but I thought I would never see anyone wear the kimono I dye. Of course, I was interested in dyeing. “Shirushizome” is meant to be used for practical items, so the technique must change with the times. “Shirushizome” was used to dye war flags in the past, but such flags are now used for banners at ballparks. They can be clearly seen even from the opposite side of the stand. I once found a product I had dyed in a town and I joined a festival wearing a happi coat I had dyed. “Shirushizome” is pure fun.
